This man-made star shaped lake which covers an extend of 60 acres lies in the center of Kodaikanal town. The creator of this geographical landmark is Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the former collector of Madurai in 1863.The beautiful waterfall Silver cascade is formed from outflow of this lake which is at a height of 180 feet. This lake with shore length of 9kms and average depth of about 9.7 meters is located at an elevation of about 6911 feet from sea level. Boating in the serene lake with greenery all-around is a thrilling experience. The lake catchment area is mainly covered with Kurinji flowers which makes the entire hill blue during its blooming season. The 9 kms of shore length offers tourist the best path for cycling, horse riding and shopping. As a part of tourist development boat club and boat houses have been set up in lakeside who conduct flower shows and boat pageants during summer season. Variety of fishes and aqua insects are found in which rainbow trout and common carp are in abundance.
